Service Description

Helexia Spain and Alcampo marked a new milestone in the energy transition of the Canary Islands with the official inauguration of their photovoltaic installation at the Telde hypermarket.

A state-of-the-art infrastructure built on photovoltaic carports

Unlike traditional installations, this project has been fully executed on parking lot solar carports, designed and installed by Helexia. This technical solution makes it possible to optimize underutilized surfaces to generate clean energy, while simultaneously enhancing customer comfort by providing shade and protection for their vehicles.

The plant, operational since December 5, 2025, has an installed capacity of 1,474 kWp and is composed of 2,436 high-efficiency modules. On an annual basis, it will generate 2,347 MWh, enabling the site to cover 38% of its electricity demand with renewable energy produced on-site.

Profitability and energy autonomy for the future

This installation not only reduces the carbon footprint by 282 tonnes of CO₂ per year, but also enables Alcampo to optimize operating costs and secure a more stable energy supply in the face of market volatility. Each project further demonstrates that renewable energy is a sound investment — combining economic performance with environmental responsibility.

At the same time, Alcampo continues to strengthen its sustainability strategy. With this inauguration, the company now operates 13 photovoltaic installations in Spain, reaching a total of 14,206 solar panels installed. This progress aligns with its vision, “Eating well and Living better, Caring for the Planet,” as explained by Jorge Ferre, Director of Alcampo Telde.

Leroy Merlin has taken steps to support electric mobility with the installation of a normal dual charger at their Setubal store, enabling the simultaneous charging of two electric cars. The company plans to introduce charging facilities at future locations including Aveiro, Leiria, Matosinhos, Sintra, Albufeira, and Funchal, incorporating 6 normal dual chargers and 7 fast chargers. In total, 7 normal chargers and 7 fast chargers will be available, allowing up to 21 electric cars to charge simultaneously.
